Choir in concert with Blake

What a fantastic evening, conducting the 75-strong, Surrey Concert Choir who sang with Classical-Brit winners, Blake.
The programme "Songs of Stage and Screen" included an eclectic mix of pieces, with subtle staging, film clips and the superb voices of Stephen, Humph and Ollie. It was a joy to hear those three voices blending so beautifully with the choir voices, their tone rich and mellow.

The Surrey Concert Choir were a pleasure to conduct as they sang four numbers with Blake, (In Paradisum, Vide cor Meum, Nessun Dorma, You'll Never Walk Alone,) plus a fifth song, (choir only) to open the second half.

From one of my favourite musicals, Les Miserables, we chose "Do You Hear the People Sing?" a great, rousing number, which suits a large choir. The solos were performed by tenors, Phil Wells and Chris East, complete with red, revolutionary flags and a French tricolour, ably carried by our own, little "Gavroche" (Robin Ward.)

The theatre was packed, the audience enthusiastic and it all went without a hitch. The concert has been filmed professionally and once the DVD is ready I will be sharing clips on here and the various choir website. For now here's some photos taken by singers on the night. Thank you all it was a fantastic evening!

AUDITIONS

AUDITIONS POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS.

In 2020 I'll be auditioning for a new, smaller choir to perform at competitions, festivals and on tour. Singers should be able to read music and be comfortable with the idea of performing on television programmes, radio and the recording studio.

Repertoire will be wide-ranging from traditional, choral pieces to contemporary works (Gjeilo, MacMillan, Chilcott, Rutter, Mealor)
to arrangements of pop classics, modern gospel (Ken Burton, Kirk Franklin) and hits from the musicals.

I'll also be looking for an accompanist for rehearsals in London/South East and performances at concerts, competitions and festivals.
